Recipe: Chess Pie

This is an all-time favorite, y’all. And it’s SO simple and easy!

This is my grandmother’s recipe, and, in my opinion, far superior to any other chess pie I’ve ever had. See what you think!

Mama’s Chess Pie

  • 1/2 c Oleo (we always use butter)
  • 3 Eggs
  • 5 T Milk
  • 1 t Vanilla
  • 1 T Cornmeal
  • 1 t White Vinegar

Melt butter and add other ingredients. Mix well.

Pour in unbaked pie shell and bake 30 minutes in oven of 350F or until set.

Seriously, y’all, that’s it. According to my mother and grandmother, the name “Chess Pie” came about from it being called, “Just Pie”. And, really, that’s what it is. It’s Just Pie.
