For the Gentlemen: #4 – Hands

I found this picture on Pinterest… It is Captain Wentworth and Anne Elliot from the 1995 adaptation of Jane Austen’s Persuasion.

Random Tip: #4 – What to do with your hands

Let the lady offer her hand first for the handshake.

If she does not offer her hand, technically you should simply move on without any handshake at all.

This one was also found on Pinterest… Mr. Darcy helping Lizzie into the carriage in the 2005 adaptation of Jane Austen’s Pride and Prejudice.

Offer your hand to the lady for support, should she be on difficult terrain, about to make an uncertain/large step (climbing into/out of a tall van, for instance…), or other such challenging situations.

Do not consider this degrading for a lady. (And, ladies, do not consider this degrading.) She has every right to refuse your offer to help (after thanking you… Hint, hint, ladies!).
