So, you have a plan for the kids’ seats, but what do you do? How do you work this road trip thing-a-ma-bob?
For the snacks, Mama kept all the refills in the back. This meant that they were out of the way, but also unaccessible. So, before heading out in the morning, go ahead and portion out the 10 AM snacks. Keep these up front with you. Then, when you stop for lunch, refill the containers with the 3 PM snacks. This saves room at your feet, and prevents excessive snacking in the front seats. 🙂
Mama also kept fresh activities on hand for us. She would stock our organizers when we set out, then gradually, throughout the multi-week trip, handed out new things to entertain us (a new mad libs book, some new crosswords, etc.).
And, one of THE BEST activities in the car is enjoying a read-aloud book. Mama read a lot of the Little House series to us on the road. To this day, we still enjoy being read to! 🙂
